John Lee Wagas
Nerd, Writer, Gamer, Postulant, Reader, Theologian, Philosopher, Historian
Hello, I’m John — it’s lovely to meet you! Thanks for taking the time explore my blog. Here you can find my shower thoughts, bedtime ruminations, existential quandaries, spiritual predicaments, cultural commentaries, and everything both beyond and in-between. It is my intention to use this blog not only as a way to share who I am, but also my exploration of the intersection of nerdom, queerness, and spirituality.
I’m twenty-three years old, a Postulant for Holy Orders (specifically, the priesthood) in the Episcopal Diocese of California, a Volunteer Chaplain at Washington Hospital in Fremont, and the Interim Treasurer for the Stanford Canterbury Chaplaincy at Stanford University.
I’m a first-generation Filipino-American, having been born in the Philippines but immigrating to the United States by the age of two. For the vast majority of my life, I have called the East Bay Area home. In growing to embrace my identity as a queer man and diasporic Filipino, I moved beyond the deeply rooted Catholicism I was raised in and became an Episcopalian/Anglican—knowing that questions are more vital than answers, and that the heart of the Gospel is the expansive, liberating, and affirming love of God.
In recent years, I’ve found and engaged in numerous activities that utilize my skills of communication, education, spiritual care, religious literacy, writing, and interpersonal collaboration in ways that serve the Church and the wider world.
